Closing Seminar of the Project “Pour un savoir économique plus accessible”

The closing seminar of the project “Pour un savoir économique plus accessible” provided an opportunity to present the policy briefs developed as part of the project, exchange views on their recommendations, and engage in a panel discussion on the challenges of translating research into public policy decisions.
These policy briefs were produced as part of the Savoirs éco project, funded by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France, which aims to support public debate on economic issues in Tunisia.

International Conference Reliable Data and Comprehensive Analyses to Foster Evidence-Based Decision-Making

The EPI Lab and the DEVSOC Research Lab co-organized an international conference at the South Mediterranean University, bringing together leading national and international researchers to discuss cutting-edge empirical work and its implications for evidence-based policymaking. The event focused on recent studies using official data and advanced impact evaluation methods, highlighting their role in informing policy decisions in Tunisia.
As the first joint initiative between the two research labs, the conference marked an important step toward positioning Tunisia as a regional hub for empirical economic research, particularly in the field of impact evaluation. It also showcased the country’s rich administrative and survey data, reflecting its long-standing commitment to data collection and analysis.
A key objective of the conference was to strengthen local research capacities, particularly among participants of the Tunisia Data Literacy Program (TDLP), launched by the World Bank in 2024 in collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics (INS). The program aims to enhance the statistical and analytical skills of government officials, media professionals, and academics, while promoting the effective use of data to support evidence-based decision-making.
The conference also fostered collaboration between local and international researchers and provided TDLP mentoring participants with the opportunity to engage with ongoing research and contribute to academic discussions.
The program featured a diverse range of sessions delivered both in person and in hybrid format, including keynote speeches by renowned scholars, presentations of ongoing research, project discussions led by TDLP participants and EPI Lab members, and a collaborative data session aligned with the lab’s research agenda. Discussions covered key topics such as the impact of climate shocks, firm dynamics and innovation, exports and tax incentives, as well as education and labour markets.
